This page outlines who we see, and how to get in touch. Please encourage your patients to check our webpage and make their booking. Referred patients do not need to wait for us to contact them to request an appointment.
Who we see and how we can help
Dr McKeown sees patients from age 6. The right pathway depends on age, clinical history, and what is needed.
Teenagers & Adults
GP-led ADHD assessment, review pathway, and ADHD Mental Health Care appointments are all available for patients aged 13 and over.
Review or Advice
Review and advice appointments are available for patients aged 6 and over, including those with an existing ADHD diagnosis. We can discuss your concerns, review previous reports and recommend appropriate next steps.
Children’s assessment and specialist support
For children aged 6–12, where ADHD assessment is being considered, Dr McKeown can provide an initial consultation and refer to an appropriate specialist through established referral pathways. Following specialist assessment, Dr McKeown can review the report and help with ongoing care where clinically appropriate.
Available Pathways
ADHD Assessment Pathway
Suitable for teenagers and adults who have not previously received a formal ADHD diagnosis. Assessment, diagnosis, and any medication initiation are managed by Dr McKeown across three appointments.
Review Pathway
For patients with an existing ADHD diagnosis who need to re-establish ongoing management — for example after moving interstate, an expired permit, or changing prescribing clinicians. Available for children aged 6 and over.
ADHD Mental Health Care
ADHD psychoeducation through Focused Psychological Strategies (FPS) appointments for teenagers and adults with an established ADHD diagnosis and a Mental Health Care Plan from their regular GP for ADHD psychoeducation. Please specify how many sessions (up to 6) you are requesting.
Specialist Referral Pathways
Where a GP assessment is not the right fit — for example, young children requiring formal assessment — Dr McKeown can see the patient and refer through established specialist pathways and then help the patient with their follow up after their specialist appointment.
What to Include in a Referral
A referral letter to Dr McKeown should include:
- Patient name, date of birth, and contact details
- Reason for referral and relevant clinical history
- Any previous ADHD assessments, diagnoses, or treatment
- Current medications
- Any relevant comorbidities or mental health history
- School or workplace reports where available and relevant
Referrals can be sent by fax or secure messaging via HealthLink. Patients can also self-refer for the review pathway and ADHD Mental Health Care appointments.
